With this project I have started this page with looking at what types of research can provide different types of information so what I have learnt from this research already is that primary secondary research can be split further Ito both viable and reliable data but the thing is the two groups viable and reliable data cane used for the same info in both primary or secondary sections.
So, what’s the difference between reliable and viable data?
So, let’s start with what they actually mean, Viable data stands for how true the data is it can also be called (Validity or rely) as they could say can you rely on the data given to you? so when I find information or receive any I just look if its reliable or not because using false data can destroy a project.
Reliable stands for how good the data are as it has been discovered and received multiple times such as questioners as you can receive qualitative data from and can be shown as repetition of the same data so for example if one person does a questionnaire and gets a set of results to men it reliable another person would conduct the same questionnaire and hopefully get some similar results to make it reliable.
The difference between validity and reliability is that if someone for example did a questionnaire and let’s say 50 of 100 people say yes and 50 say no that means the information is reliable but what could not make it valid is that some of those people have lied that’s the difference of the two.
This quote explains how both reliable and validity works in the case of a questionnaire.

Qualitative and quantitively
The difference between these two data types is that qualitative data is data that uses people’s attributes, culture, lifestyle and aspirations and mainly come from open questions posed to people.
Quantitively data is from numerical data so like how many cars were red or blue and the info was taken down in tally marks this makes it numerical and quantitively data.
what I've done to find out more about people who watch podcasts I have created a survey listing what my potential viewers are interested in when listening to a podcast.
Secondary Research
For this section I am looking at the change of podcasts over the years as well as the key to a successful podcast and how they have become successful.
Commitment and Creative Bravery the reason for the two words is because being committed to make a podcast very week and bringing new ideas to the podcast will continue to make your podcast grow in popularity and in profits from creative paid promotions from outside companies that will help fund and improve the quality of your set, equipment and audience as your popularity grows your podcast will be shown to new audiences. The popularity of the podcast format has increased in the past few years, but it mainly originated in 1980s as a format called audio blogging. They were usually broadcasted on the radio as a sort of story time because that is what a podcast can be used to tell the creators stories and share their history, podcasts gained popularity as the technology advanced in the world and gained huge success when streaming platforms and playback devices became more available such as the introduction of the first iPod and iPhone. It gave the option and the ability for the listeners to listen to their favourite podcasts on the go and at any time which again boosts the popularity of the podcast platform.
Recently podcasters have used streaming platforms such as Soundcloud, Spotify, google music and even the late iTunes. The opportunities to reach your audience are endless with the podcast format.
Recently podcasters have decided slowly changed their format from just being audio to audio visual by using a multi cam setup to visual show their favourite creators talking and hanging out so the viewer can feel like They are a part of the podcast and makes you feel like your hanging out with friends not just a voice, this format is usually presented on the popular online platform YouTube where almost everyone around the world can access their content which is truly amazing.
Podcast characteristics
Podcasts are designed to either tell a story or help teach a subject to the listeners around the world, they are usually designed to last from 10-15 minuets but have recently extended to last about 60 to 90 minuets especially for the more storytelling podcast such as the Misfits podcast but recently they have moved over to a new video format (audio visual) that has helped reach so many new audiences around the world.
Some podcasts have become like mini talk shows by adding special guests such as popular youtubers or celebrities such as post Malone or Billie Eilish this is most commonly found on another audio-visual podcast which is also created by youtubers H3H3 and the podcast is called The H3H3 Podcast.
I have realised that most popular podcasts have been made by youtubers who have decide to create podcasts and have brought they're audience from YouTube to the new platform and for those who cannot afford the new platforms or for those who can't simply access them they have created the audio-visual versions to help keep the audience and not let them feel left out.

One technique I am definitely going to use for my cast is using headphones to monitor what the mics are earring so the audio quality would be the same for the entirety of the podcast and can be used as a form of quality control. I could use a test recording to see how the setup could play out and I need to remember when creating this project is to reserve my audio level and try not raise try not to raise my voice as that can peak the audio channels for the cast and that could prove displeasing to the viewers/listeners.
Audience research
Audience research
The information represented on these graphs and charts presented describe the gender separation and the
podcast listening stats from the U.S.
The information on these graphs have revealed to me that in the US 56% of males listen to podcasts which is way more than females with 44% who listen to podcasts in the US.
also I have learnt not to make my podcast too long as most listeners and viewers don't watch the entire podcast and in this survey only 45% of Americans watch most of the episode but only 35% of the viewers listen to an entire episode which is quite staggering, what I understand from this is that if I make my podcast too long people would stop watching.
My chosen theory

The audience theory I have chosen is uses and gratification theory as it relates to my viewers watching/listening to my podcast to listen to my podcast to find out what we tap about in it the reason I chose this as my theory is from looking at my questionnaire I did which presented to me what an audience looks for in a good podcast.
The majority said that podcasts that contain life stories and relatable topics will help increase the popularity of your podcast and what keeps your audience entertained and interested in the podcast and hopefully encourage them to continue to listen to future episodes.
Conclusion
what I learnt from my research is that to make my podcast decent and successful is by being both creatively brave and very committed towards this project because if you dont have neither of these factors my podcast won't be a successful as I want it to be.
the most ideal place to steam this podcast would be on YouTube as everyone has access to the site swell as my target demographic of 15 to 30 year olds spend most of their time on this site as its where they entertain themselves and learn form this site.
from my research I have decided to use only a section of the full podcast for my final product as from my primary research I have discovered not everyone watches an entire podcast episode I have decided to cut the episode down to the more stronger and exciting parts of the episode as it will reach my target audience by only showing the parts my audience.
And to sort this edit I have also decided on my subject script that shows how the show will be cut up into the different subjects and the subjects I have chosen are mainly gaming, clothing and life storys as my questionnaire presented that life stories were the most popular topic that my audience enjoy swell as gaming and clothing which is popular in my target audience

Don't forget to show citations and secondary sources. Good work, Harry. On this page detail what techniques and theory you plan to implement in your multi camera piece. What, from your learning, are you going to apply?
ReplyDeleteyou have talked about the audio side of podcasts but only briefly mentioned the recent video format. when a podcast does have visuals, what do they normally contain? how many cameras do they have? do they have image overlays?
ReplyDeleteMake the separate section headings bold, it's hard to see where everything is. Primary research obviously is lacking, other than that, lots of writing.
ReplyDeleteprogress has been made with the headings. Primary TBC :)
ReplyDeleteprimary research is done, well done Harry :) Would like to see an outline of your target audience in your research and how it came together.
ReplyDeleteYou have began your secondary research regarding characteristics of audience... define this demographic and explain how this affects your idea (how you shoot this and how you edit this piece). (now see comment in production page)
